How about a Tax Credit instead of a Tax?

As a recently appointed Board Member and Current Candidate, I am actively working with State Legislators to help CCUSD financially benefit from adjusting the tax credit and ensure the Community isn't burdened by Bonds and Overrides.

1.This slide represents the current tax disparity between public and private schools.

The Role of Tax-Credit Donations: Public vs. Private Schools

Another significant factor in the financial equation is the difference in how tax-credit donations are utilized by public versus private schools. Public schools are limited by caps on donations and restrictions on how the funds can be used, whereas private schools can leverage School Tuition Organizations (STOs) to raise significantly more money, which can be used to directly reduce tuition costs for families.

Let’s break it down:

Public School Tax-Credit Donations:

Individual Cap: $200

Couple Cap: $400

Private School Donations:

Starting Point Donation: $1,495 and up

2.This slide illustrates the potential revenue gain if the tax credit was equal to non-public schools, creating a more equitable playing field for CCUSD.

This visualization illustrates the financial impact of raising the tax credit donation cap from $400 to $1,495 for the 2,552ish families in the district.

Financial Lift Opportunity:

Current Total Potential Funds Raised: $1,020,800

Proposed Total Potential Funds Raised: $3,815,240

Financial Lift: $2,794,440

This significant increase in funds could greatly enhance the resources available to CCUSD, supporting vital programs, competitive teacher salaries, improving facilities, and ensuring a higher quality of education for all students.
